CONSULTATION

Unity are constantly engaging with the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in Cornwall. Unity's management committee members are also individuals from a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds and we try to do our best to reflect the Cornish population and therefore we have South Asian, South East Asian, Black African and Caribbean, English, Scotish, Irish and a Gypsy & Traveller representative on our board.  Those members do not represent all communities.  However, they do try their best to share vital information which will allow people to feedback into a process that has been set up to gather intelligence and allow Unity to pass on this information to the public and voluntary sector to help improve their service delivery.  Unity is a voice for BAME issues and slowly, but surely this simple method of engagement actually works.  Unity will hold quarterly events for its members.  Many focus groups (e.g. African Caribbean Women, Muslim & South Asian Women, Young People) are being created and it is hoped that we can bring all these groups together in one place to allow sharing of good practice and celebrate achievements.  It is also planned to invite a variety of public and voluntary agencies to part of the group sessions in order for them to share information on neighbourhood aspects, such as, health, housing, social services, children and young people, training and personal development, leisure, etc.
