UNITY CORNWALL TOOK PART IN AN EVENT TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR THE 'SHELTER BOX'. THE FIRST EVENT ITSELF WAS QUITE SIGNIFICANT, BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST STREET PARTY TO CELEBRATE MULTI-CULTURALISM IN CORNWALL AND ISLES OF SCILLY. THE EVENT WAS OPENNED TO THE PUBLIC WITH MANY ORGANISATIONS BEING REPRESENTED. UNITY LOOKS FORWARD TO PARTICIPATING IN NEXT YEAR'S CELEBRATION. THE NEXT CULTURAL EVENT TO LOOK FOR WILL BE 'BLACK HISTORY MONTH' WHICH STARTS IN OCTOBER 2009. Click here for more details What a good day - Unity's stall and marques was set up early in the morning at Victoria Park, Truro City in preparation for the public to turn up for 10.00am. However, things didn't actually get going until round 11.30am. There were many activities catering for all ages groups, such as, NHS health check, African drums and Banner making workshops arranged by 'ARTS FOR HEALTH'. The Diversity Police Team were there introducing their new BME PACT (click here to find out more), A women's group set up last year for individuals from a different of cultural backgrounds called themselves 'Colourful' were selling soup of the day and all type of lovely cakes and snacks. Unity Cornwall also had its own display to promote the 'Asian Women's Group' showing off its passed actvities and achievements, including information on Unity's Youth Forum and the activities available for young people, such as, a place to meet and discuss their concerns and share good news. The whole day, evening and night was a great experience for all those who took part. Unity Cornwall would like to congratulate the organiser of the event, Dean Harvey who had the vision to introduce RESPECT to Cornwall and secondly arranging for us all to have such a great cultural street party, which we all look forward to next year.
